Spring is moving slowly into summer here in Northern California. For us that means an occasional warm day mostly mixed in with cool fog, blowing mist and keeping the heat on through August. Yet, the bursts of warmth serve to encourage quick blooms and movement in nature--all of which I enjoy observing and documenting. As I have mentioned before, I think of the clay plate as a photograph often transcribing what I see around me and interpreting it literally, other times abstractly onto the clay canvas. Like a photograph it helps me remember a point in time, an image or a feeling I had-
pink carpet for the windmills by the ocean..
and the cliffs by the sea..
the complex textures of tree bark in Golden Gate Park...
the sprawling seriality of the vineyards of Napa and Southern Oregon...
and fallen blossoms now sculpted by a divine wood path...
I look forward to more diversions into the natural world ahead here in California, and also in New Mexico and the East Coast this summer..
